A Celebration of the Spirit and Poetry of Taha Muhammad Ali

From touring Palestine to acclaimed international stages, award-winning Taha returns to London for one night only.

Since its 2014 debut in Haifa, Taha  has become one of the most successful and widely celebrated Palestinian theatrical performances of the last three decades. A lyrical tour de force written and performed by Amer Hlehel, the one-man play captures the remarkable life of the late Palestinian poet Taha Muhammad Ali, tracing his journey from a childhood in the village of Saffuriya through the displacement of the 1948 Nakba, to his emergence as a world-renowned literary voice.

Amer Hlehel’s Taha is a dramatic and lyrical tour de force… a delight for the mind and nourishment for the heart.” — Ayad Akhtar, 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner

Developed in part at the prestigious Sundance Institute Theatre Lab, this vivid monologue is a delicate balance of tragedy and triumph. It navigates a family’s struggle for survival against the backdrop of war with a surprising amount of humour, resilience, and “nourishment for the heart.”

Taha has captivated audiences across the globe, from the Young Vic in London and the Kennedy Center in Washington DC to major festivals in Edinburgh, Singapore, Australia, and throughout the Arabic-speaking world.

This show is fully in English.

The play will be followed by a Q&A with Amer Hlehel and Amir Zuabi in conversation with Khalid Abdalla

Souad Massi, Zagate | London

Date: May 09, 2026

Venue: Barbican Centre

Address: Beech St, Barbican, London EC1Y 8AA

Time: 19:30

Organized by: MARSM UK

Blending folk, rock, and poetry, the Franco-Algerian singer-songwriter and guitarist returns with Zagate, a glowing album where the gentleness of her voice meets the weight of the world.

Exploring pain, anger, rebellion, but also courage and hope, Zagate reveals an artist in full self-affirmation, truer, more complete, more herself. Turning poetry into an act of resistance – a vibrant dialogue between the personal and the political, reflecting a free artist deeply engaged with the world. Driven by emotional strength and lyrical clarity, Souad Massi delivers daring work, more intense and direct than ever, without losing the fragility that defines her.

Often considered the most beautiful female voice of North Africa, Souad Massi has forged her reputation over the course of a career spanning more than 20 years, dubbed the Tracy Chapman of the Maghreb. Alongside her musical career, in 2005, she became a United Nations Ambassador for micro-credits, to help women in Africa.

“Virtual Reality” is Alaa Abu Diab’s newest special: a comedic, brutally honest dive into the world we think we’re living in, versus the world that’s happening while we’re too busy refreshing our notifications.

With his signature storytelling and political humour, Alaa drags us, lovingly, between two realities: the one we laugh at, and the one we avoid

In this special, Alaa exposes the glitches in our daily lives, the lies we tell ourselves, and the ridiculous ways we escape reality, one screen at a time.

It’s sharp. It’s real. It’s painfully funny.

And it leaves you wondering: Are we actually living, or just buffering?

Please note: This show will be fully presented in Arabic.

About Alaa

Alaa Abu Diab is a comedian and cultural mirror who turns discomfort, contradiction, and displacement into comedy. He doesn’t perform as a persona; he performs as himself. His humour is not crafted from punchlines; it is crafted from truth.

Comedy is his language of survival and connection

Alaa didn’t choose comedy; it chose him.

Growing up, humour was his way to make friends, integrate, and feel safe. Later, when he moved to a new country and felt isolated, he reached for the only tool he had ever trusted: comedy.

A single Facebook video became the bridge he built back to belonging.

Comedy is how he makes people listen.

It’s how he processes things bigger than him. It’s how he stays human in a world that often feels too heavy at times.

It’s sharp.

“Virtual Reality” is Alaa Abu Diab’s newest special: a comedic, brutally honest dive into the world we think we’re living in, versus the world that’s happening while we’re too busy refreshing our notifications.
